El Bolsón is a bohemian village, with a unique atmosphere cherished by nature lovers and artisans. It hosts the annual hop festival - Fiesta Nacional del Lupulo - and has a handicraft market famous for its quality. All in all, the inhabitants try and live environmentally friendly lifestyles and, in 1984, El Bolsón was declared a non-nuclear, ecological town. It's not difficult to see why El Bolsón was established in the heart of this natural setting surrounded by Cerro* Piltriquiltrón in the distance and Quemquemtreu River at its feet.
Highlights:
:: Arts & Crafts Market: Along with locally produced cheeses, meats, sweets and beer, one can also find paintings, leather accessories, clothing and products made from local wool, wood and metal.
:: Lago Puelo and Epuyen: Both located nearby El Bolsón; great places for hiking, visiting waterfalls and fishing.
:: Cascada Escondida: Waterfalls located 10 km northwest of town. It's an excellent picnic spot; be sure to ask for the shortcut through the woods.
:: Cerro Piltriquitrón: a hikeable mountain within walking distance from town. Its location and spectacular views of the town itself makes it a great reference point for getting around the surrounding area.
:: Bosque Tallado: a unique forest located within Cerro Piltriquiltrón, displaying wooden sculptures made from the remains of trees that were once burnt in a local forest fire.
:: Cabeza Del Indio: the "Indian Head" is located 6 km away from town. From here you will be treated with incredible views of the Rio Azul Valley and Lago Puelo. You can do some trekking in the mountain ranges or hike lakeside on the excellent network of trails, all doted with superb refugios nestled in amazing settings.
Don't leave without tasting the locally produced beer. Available in an assortment of different flavours such as strawberries, raspberries, etc.
