The road from Salta to Cachi (170 km) climbs the amazing Cuesta del Obispo, which offers beautiful views of the Los Cardones National Park, an area with huge candelabra cacti scattered all over the desert.

The picturesque, historic village of Cachi has magnificent views of the snow-capped Nevado de Cachi mountain (6380m).

Cachi's has an attractive main square, Plaza 9 de Julio, sheltered by tall trees. Most of the village's principal buildings are by the square including the only bank, the tourist info centre, a couple of nice cafes, the church and the museum.

The Church of San Jose has a beautiful white facade crowned by 3 bells and a cross. The interior contains paintings related to the Stations of the Cross, a decorated altar and an impressive pulpit.

Cachi's Archaeological Museum is located beside the church in a beautiful white building; it's worth visiting to see its interior with its quiet courtyards and impressive arches. The displays feature items excavated from digs in the surrounding area, including El Tero (2km south-west of Cachi, an easy hike from the village).
